Walsh sustained a double fracture in his right leg at Down Royal and has been has been told by medical experts that scan results showed he is recovering well.

Walsh is now off crutches and back in light training after eight weeks and will now look forward to reigniting his charge to retain his crown. "Dr Moore (Walsh’s Doctor) was very happy with it, and the leg is healing well. I still have an outer support frame and I'm hoping that will come off early next month.”

Cheltenham festival betting pundits note how the injury was due to rule him out until February but Walsh is recovering well and looks as though he may return slightly earlier than expected.

Andrew McNamara currently leads the race to end the season with the most wins with 48, with Paul Carberry one behind.

The Irishman lays in seventh, on thirty wins and faces an uphill task to get back in to contention. He is placed at around 13-2 with most betting firms which represent the tough task he now faces.

Walsh, who includes two Cheltenham Gold Cup wins and two Grand National victories on his C.V, is no stranger to injury.

In the run-up to the 2010 Grand National, he broke his arm in two places after coming unseated from Celestial Halo – before friend and rival AP McCoy went on to win his first Grand National on Don’t Push It.

He rode favourite Kauto Star to Gold Cup glory in 2007 and 2009 after cementing his reputation as one of the finest jump jockeys of recent times. Amongst Walsh’ most impressive feats was winning the Grand National at his first attempt aged just twenty.
