Tanya's Blog - 13th January 2011

Adams Island's win yesterday was not only a massive result for the blog but also my Cheltenham portfolio as it boosts Wymott’s credentials for the RSA Chase. Burnt Oak didn’t run too badly either under in my opinion a very thoughtful ride. Amidst all the drama this morning I have checked the betting markets as a distraction and there are the embryonic stages of some gambles going ahead. Valley View in the first at Hereford, Jonjo O’Neill’s runner has found some friends against the hot-pot Togiak, who I never liked on the flat, but he did run in the Lingfield Derby Trial so as a flat horse he should be better than these.

Hobb’s Dream is much shorter than in the paper and would be my market mover of the day at this stage, an easy winner on the heavy at Lingfield on January 3 she could be worth following up on, especially with Mark Quinlan taking seven pounds off her back. Other horses to look out for are Najca De Thaix Hereford’s 2:40, Arrayan Hereford 4:10 and Blackpool Billy 3:20 Catterick.

How about last night? Ipswich beating Arsenal! I enjoyed a rare celebration for the ‘Tractor Boys’ whether they will cling on to the lead in the second leg is another matter so I’m enjoying the celebration for now.

The PGA Tour starts in earnest tonight in Hawaii but because of the hours unless you stay up all night it is very difficult to follow this one. However I will be keeping tabs on all the players and just out of interest will be backing Tim Herron at 225-1, Robert Allenby at 28-1 and Ernie Els at 14-1

It is with great sadness that I report my retired greyhound, Sumi Girl passed away this morning, she was 15. She held the 708 track record at Sittingbourne for ten years which she broke in a graded race – oops, and ran in the last St Leger to be held at Wembley. Favourite for a Golden Jacket she was beaten by her kennel companion in the final. She had the courage of a lion, battling back from serious injury to return to top class action after 18 months in front of the Sky cameras. Thank you Sumi Girl, you will be missed by all who backed, walked and stroked you.
