Competitive Champion Flat Jockey Contest Expected We are yet to reach the climax of the National Hunt season with both the Cheltenham Festival and the Aintree Grand National meeting still to come but there is already some anticipation for the official start of the Flat season. The ball started rolling in earnest with Richard Hughes laying down the gauntlet in the battle for title of Champion Flat Jockey. Richard Hannon’s stable jockey has been runner up in the title chase for the past three years and is even more determined than ever to put in a big challenge for the honour this year. Others that will certainly have their say in the eventual destination of the title are likely to include Frankie Dettori and the rejuvenated Kieren Fallon. The main challengers will be more easily noted by the time that Royal Ascot takes place in June but until; then we can expect some really top quality action and a tight league table. In the meantime, Hughes made early mention of both Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin as rides that he is looking forward to taking this year and the mention of the two will certainly be noted by the smart money punters. Whoever, manages to grab the title this year, the rumbling are already growing that it may well be a classic Flat season this year and we anticipate the action in earnest. |
