Captain's Blog - 17th March 2011

Sizing Europe went in for us yesterday here on the Blog at 10/1 which was a sweet deal and gives us some ammunition for day three. Of course today is all about Big Buck's and his assault on the World Hurdle. The debate about whether Grands Crus is capable of lowering his colours will have been fierce and heated in the pubs and bars last night in Cheltenham and certainly there are many different opinions in the office but for what it is worth here is my two pennies worth.

I believe Big Buck's is going to win the World Hurdle again, yes there you have it in a nutshell, no splinters in my backside on this one. He is a laid back horse with immense talent and has won his last ten races. He always saves something for himself in his races and we simply do not know how good he could be. Ruby Walsh seemed to be very confident when I spoke to him live on just over a week ago indeed he could not wipe the smile off his face when I mentioned Big Bucks, I have dubbed this the Quevega smile because he had the same look on his face when I asked him about her, and look what she did on Tuesday. Grands Crus has been impressive this year and quite rightly has plenty of supporters. My doubts about him are twofold, firstly he can be very keen, at worst in this company that means he will not get home and at best it may well simply mean that he pulls his way to the front and gives Big Buck's a nice lead down to the last. In short I do not think Grands Crus can beat Big Bucks and even money is a good price.

is up and running and the guys on course are doing some sterling work, I am pleased that Steve Mellish shares my views on the World Hurdle. It is always nice when others agree with you because sometimes in life it is nice to be sailing on the same ship as others, it helps the confidence flow.

I am going to throw a few darts today and hope they stick. Talking of darts the Premier league stuff from Glasgow tonight is going to be electric, last year James Wade had a pint thrown over him on his way to the stage. The atmosphere will be intimidating and it should make for great TV tonight. For now though it is time to hopefully give you a winner or two for today.

All the best
