Captain's Blog - 21st March 2011

Now that the dust has settled on the Festival it is time to move on and turn our thoughts to the World Cup meeting in Dubai at the weekend. The recently announced absence of Bold Silvano from the World Cup itself will seriously weaken the race but it still looks as if it is going to be a cracking renewal even if it is on Tapeta! The Sheema Classic will also be without Snow Fairy which is a shame but the meeting will still be one of rare quality and I am thoroughly looking forward to Presenting it on .

My weekly schedule takes me back to the office tomorrow for a bit of booth action and I will be bringing you all the polytrack fair from Kempton on Thursday night. Thus a fairly busy week during which I am determined to get the lawn cut! Yes Spring officially arrived yesterday and when that happens it is time for me to dust the lawnmower off and get the lawn looking as if it is a lawn rather than a badly kept piece of waste land. It is amazing how mowing the lawn can make the whole garden look better! I also need to refresh the pots on the patio and get some nice plants in them. After all I need somewhere nice and spring like to sit when I am having my morning coffee. Sounds lovely doesn’t it? Well it is not quite as glamorous as it sounds as usually the coffee is needed because I have been up half the night with my daughter. Anyway come hell or high water I am going to get that garden looking a deal better than it is at the moment and that project starts today.

I am not one to spend hours and hours looking at videos of races to find a few horses to follow for the future, as you know I am a speed figure man, but on reflection I do have one for you from the Festival. Dirar finished strongly from the back in the county hurdle after being given a patient ride. The race was steadily run which did not suit this horse who was a stayer on the flat. He would have gone very close to winning if he had been ridden prominently. He stays two miles on the flat, has a big speed figure to his name and two and a half miles may be the ideal trip for him. He would be very interesting over that trip at the Aintree Grand National meeting.

Before I get stuck into the garden I am under strict instructions to go to Tesco and do a weekly shop. This is one of my least favourite activities, but it has to be done and Tesco points need to be accumulated.

Have a lovely day and enjoy the weather.
