Fallon to Miss Guineas After Receiving 10-Day Ban Former champion jockey Keiren Fallon has suffered an early blow to his hopes of regaining the title, but more importantly will miss the Qipco Newmarket Guineas fixture after falling foul of the Kempton stewards on the 13th April picking up a 10-day ban that rules him out of the feature meeting at HQ, writes Elliot Slater. The Kempton stewards were not impressed with Fallon’s perceived failure to ride out for second place and slapped the 10-day ban on him to run from April 27 – May 6, a period that includes the two-day Guineas fixture which takes place on April 30 and May 1. Fallon has not yet commented on whether or not he intends to appeal against the suspension which rules him out of adding to his already impressive tally in both the fillies and the colts mile classics, for UK and Irish horse racing he would have been a top tip. The Irishman has won four of the last 11 renewals of the 2000 Guineas, partnering the high-class King’s Best to victory in the 2000 running for Sir Michael Stoute, and most recently triumphing on the 2006 winner George Washington for Aidan O’Brien. Sleepytime was the first of Fallon’s four successes in the 1000 Guineas, scoring in 1997 on the Henry Cecil-trained filly. His last success in the race came in 2005 during his spell as stable jockey to Aidan O’Brien at Ballydoyle when he guided Virginia Waters to a popular win. |
