Paul Hanagan Scores Treble at the Lesters
22/04/11

The 2010 Champion Jockey scooped a total of three Lester awards at the Birmingham Metropole in front of 400 sporting and celebrity guests.

The awards, named in honour of legendary jockey Lester Piggot started in 1990. The Flat Jockey of the year award has been won by only a select few since its inauguration, inluding multiple winners Pat Eddery, Frankie Dettori, Kieren Fallon and Jamie Spencer, Ryan Moore, whilst Kevin Darley and Micheal Roberts each won once.

To go with the flat jockey of the year award, he also received ride of the year with his win in the Ayr John Smiths Handicap aboard Opening Nite and a special recognition award.

Other winners on the night included Cathy Gannon for female flat jockey, Tony McCoy won the Jump Jockey of the year award for the 14th time, only Timmy Murphy has taken it from him in the last 15 years.

This season's flat jockey championship betting sees Ryan Moore once again favourite but this time, he is available at much longer odds than last year and EVENS is available. Hanagan is second favourite this time, and 2/1 is available on Betfair for him to follow up with a second champions title. Richard Hughes who was involved throughout the race for the title last season is around 9/1, and whilst Kieren Fallon is generally shorter than that, Ladbrokes obviously don't fancy him, as they are going as big as 10/1. Not many will fancy Jamie Spencer and he is 100/1 to lift the trophy he shared two years ago.
