Third Intention to Travel to Punchestown
29/04/11

Dorset trainer Colin Tizzard is also set to be among the British raiders at Punchestown next week after announcing that his improving hurdler Third Intention is set to line up in the Grade 1 AES Champion Four Year Old Hurdle on Saturday, May 7.

The gelding booked his ticket to Punchestown with a comprehensive victory in a novices’ hurdle at Cheltenham on April 14.

“The plan is for Third Intention to head over to Punchestown. He didn’t have a hard race on his latest start at Cheltenham and we feel that he is an improving horse, so this looked the obvious race to go for,” said Tizzard.

“We would have been disappointed if he had been beaten at Cheltenham but we were very pleased with the way he won. He has had some hard tasks throughout the spring and it was nice for him to have an easier race.

“He ran keenly early on in the season but I think it was just a question of exuberance and I don’t think that him pulling will be a problem for him again. It was just his youthfulness and he is a more complete racehorse now. He’s a good jumper and he enjoys quick ground.”

The Punchestown Festival takes place from Tuesday, May 3, to Saturday, May 7, 2011 and includes 11 Grade 1 races over the five days. The first race is at 3.40pm (2.30pm on Saturday).

GROUND UPDATE

Richie Galway, Punchestown Racing Manager, said:

“Following the recent dry spell we have continued to water the track this week and the ground is currently good.

“There are some showers forecast over the weekend and we will be monitor the track and water accordingly to maintain the current going. As always we aim to deliver good, safe jumping ground and the team here, led by Sean Ryan, continue to work tirelessly to deliver just that.

“The 2011 Festival will be particularly significant for us at Punchestown as it will be the final time Joe Collins will act as Clerk of the Course here. Joe will be retiring having acted as Clerk for the last 14 years. We would like to thank him for all his help over the last 14 years and wish him a happy retirement.”
