Captain's Blog - 30th May 2011

Another day in the booth for me today and with four meetings live on it will be a busy one. We will bring you action from Goodwood, Redcar, Carlisle and Cartmel and TV’s very own Nick Luck will be your host with Eddie Freemantle as his wingman. I will fill in the gaps and will also be the voice of Racing Replay which will be recorded when all the live action is over. I should be home by 8.30pm which will give me time to watch a recording of Wigan against Hull KR in the Superleague before caling it a long day.

This FIFA corruption business is all over the news at the moment. It would seem to me that the organisation is rotten to the core and that Blatter and his pals should be removed from it immediately and a completely fresh start made. A cleansing process is surley the only way to ensure that FIFA retains some credibility.

Talking of football, surely the Reading Royals are going to get a good hiding today at Wembley against a far superior Swansea. The Swans are a much better side and although Reading are on a role at the moment they are not as good as their recent stats suggest they are. I saw them earlier this year when they played Leeds and thought they looked pretty ordinary in securing a goaless draw. If you fancy getting involved I strongly fancy Swansea to win in 90 minutes thereby keeping the Royals in the division that reflects their ability.

My selection on the blog today is Simple Jim in the 5.20 at Redcar. He has gradually been working his way back to form and was making good late progress over 12 furlongs last time after cruising through much of the race. He is stepping up in trip today for an in form yard and should go well. He is no bargain at 7/4, but should win.

Time for me to make my packed lunch.

All the best.

Today's Selection

5.20 Redcar – Simple Jim (7/4 Betfred )
