Pontefract probably couldn’t open its doors now if MR WOLF wasn’t on the card. Being such a part of the furniture, when he retires, rather than name a stand or a bench after him, they should dedicate all the clocks to him. His record at the course is amazing from 28 appearances he has had ten victories, five seconds and five thirds. Five of those successes at Pontefract have come in July, so the stage is set for 4.30 this afternoon. Amy Ryan has the enviable task of steering him home and takes a valuable three pounds off his back.
Roger Varian could dominate this week, Pekan Star is favourite for Saturday’s John Smith Cup, I’m snapping up all prices of 5-1 or bigger now. He has Elzaam in the Darley July Cup, who is reported everywhere having worked exceptionally well, but before wishing my life away he has DARK PROMISE in Pontefract’s 4.00. An easy winner at Newmarket on seasonal reappearance he looks set to increase his winning sequence to four.
While sweeping up the 5-1 Pekan Star, I’m mindful that it is Open week next week and another 5-1 potential winner in Rory McIlroy. Many people have told me repeatedly that 5-1 is too short, so imagine my delight when this morning I discovered he was in fact 6-1. The people trying to ward me off are the very same that were happy enough to take 6-4 Tiger Woods in years gone by. There are also bound to be some outsiders lurking on the tees waiting to be snapped up. Dustin Johnson and Davis Love III, the latter to finish in the top ten only.
Then in an added bonus India’s cricket team arrive very shortly, 9-4 on the exchanges to win the Test series seems massive! They bat down to 11 and have an awesome line-up in the top order. So much to look forward to, for now DARK PROMISE and MR WOLF.
