Green Light as Nathaniel Joins Star Studded King George Line-Up
21/07/11

Lady Rothschild, owner of the hugely impressive King Edward VII Stakes winner Nathaniel, has paid the £75,000 supplementary fee adding her John Gosden-trained charge to a small but select field for what promises to be a thrilling Betfair-sponsored Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, writes Elliot Slater.

Nathaniel (10/1), who scored by five-lengths from Fiorente in the Royal Ascot event run over the 'King George' course and distance, will be well suited by the rain that is forecast to fall on the Berkshire track in the days leading up to the traditional mid-summer racing highlight. Those looking at the Betfair horse race tips should bear this in mind.

Having previously been beaten just a head by subsequent Irish Derby winner and Epsom Derby runner-up Treasure Beach in the Group 3 Chester Vase on the Roodeye in May, Nathaniel's form looks rock solid and entitles him to plenty of respect even against the likes of Coronation Cup winner St Nicholas Abbey (7/4f), Workforce (2/1), winner of last year's Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Rewilding(10/3) last stride conqueror of So You Think in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at the royal meeting, and expected supporting acts Midday, Seville and Debussy.

Gosden is under no illusions that Nathaniel will have to improve again to beat the market leaders but on collateral lines of form he is more than entitled to take his chance and, if conditions come up testing, then there is a strong possibility that he could become the subject of a significant market move in his favour. Fans of horse race betting will be keeping a close eye on him.

The horse who has got closer than any other to the mighty unbeaten miler Frankel – he went under by just a half-length on debut to the Sir Henry Cecil-trained superstar – Nathaniel, the mount of William Buick, has never been out of the first two in his life and appears to be getting better and better with every outing.
