Angus McNae

Captain's Blog - 26th July 2011

Glorious Goodwood is upon us and for the next five days we will bring you every race live from the Sussex Downs. I am getting involved on Thursday and Friday when when I will be doing duty in the booth. The Group 2 Lennox Stakes is the feature event and Delegator will be strongly fancied. He ran well to be fifth in the July Cup from a poor low figure draw, has won at the course and seven furlongs could be his ideal trip. I prefer Strong Suit who ran a big speed figure (111) when winning the Jersey Stakes and then did not quite see out a mile in France last time. There is a possibility that he is better at Ascot than anywhere else, but if he runs as fast here as he did in the Jersey he will win.

Nathaniel

I had a look at the Saturday Ascot meeting yesterday and was able to conform that the King George was a farce of a race. In winning Nathaniel posted a speed figure of 85, so what you may say? Well to put it into perspective Harbinger ran a figure of 133 when winning last year. The race is a chuck out race, to be ignored for future form analysis. The Workforce camp seem to be scratching their heads somewhat about his performance, but they can rest easy. Workforce was totally unsuited by the way the race went as was St Nicholas Abbey and both could well gain revenge on Nathaniel in a race that is properly run. This was a no race, a crawl and sprint farce which is a shame for such a great race.

My selection today is Brynfa Boy in the last at Goodwood. I will be backing him each way. He is a useful hold up sprinter who is suited to 5 furlongs and shaped with some promise last time up. He ran a big speed figure last time up and as such is reasonably well handicapped. In a race that will be run to suit I can see him getting involved late on in the rae and he rates a decent each way go in a tricky race.

All the best.

Today's Selection

5.25 Goodwood - Brynfa Boy (each way 16/1 Sky Bet )
