Maybe and La Collina Take Star Billing in Moyglare Stud Stakes
24/08/11

Maybe and La Colina are the two star fillies in the line-up for Sunday’s eagerly awaited Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. The pair have already clashed this season when the unbeaten Maybe came out on top, but La Collina has improved markedly since then as evidenced by her stunning success in the Group One Keeneland Phoenix Stakes here at the beginning of the month.

Maybe is one of seven entries for her trainer Aidan O’Brien, who is bidding for his sixth success (he first won it with Sequoyah in 2000 and also scored with Misty For Me 12 months ago) in this prestigious contest. She is clearly a filly of some quality and is easily the pick of the Ballydoyle squad. Fire Lily, Princess Sinead, Rubina, Yellow Rosebud and the sole British-trained challenger Samitar are all likely to give of their best in a top class contest.

Paddy Power, official betting partner of the Curragh Racecourse: Evens Maybe, 7-2 La Collina, 8 Samitar, 10 Princess Sinead, Yellow Rose Bud, 12 Fire Lily, 16 Rubina, Teo Lane, 25 Soon, 33 After, Coral Wave, 40 Ahimsa, Devotion, 50 French Quebec, 66 Chieftess, 100 Criostal, Homecoming Queen and Miss Ellany

An Ghalanta put up a really gutsy performance to land a Listed contest at this venue last Saturday and the daughter of Holy Roman Emperor is set to make a quick reappearance in the Group Three Go And Go Round Tower Stakes for which there are 20 entries. Five of those hail from Britain and include the Richard Hannon-trained Crown Dependency and Kevin Ryan’s Hot Sugar.

Speed is the name of the game in the Group Three Market Slide Flying Five Stakes for which there are a total of 17 entries. Sole Power, which missed an engagement at York last week because of ground fears, is expected to take his chance on this occasion and is likely to be challenged by fellow speedsters Amour Propre, Definightly, Group Therapy, Invincible Ash, Oor Jock and recent Cork scorer Roicead who has been supplemented to Sunday’s contest.

The Luca Cumani-trained Contredanse is one of six British-trained challengers in the Group Three Dance Design Stakes for which there are 28 entries in total. The Social Harmony EBF Irish Cambridgeshire Premier Handicap has always been a highly competitive contest and this year’s renewal will be no different and has attracted an entry of 27 horses.

Newbridge Silverware Search for a Style Icon will also be a major attraction on the day with the chance for one lucky lady to win a Newbridge Silverware Voucher valued at €5,000 as well as a presentation piece for their stunning collection. The panel of judges will include Gay Byrne, the newly crowned Rose of Tralee and Escort of the Year 2011 for their first official engagement and the 2011 Miss Ireland, together with fashion journalist Bairbre Power.

The first of seven races at the Curragh commences at 2.15pm and the ground is currently good to firm on the round course and good on the straight course.

Admission €15; Under 25s & Seniors €8; Children Free, Dining packages from €45 include admission.
