Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
13/10/11

The racing community is getting ever more excited about the superb QIPCO Champions’ Day at Ascot this Saturday and the return of Frankel in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is the feature race of the day.

The race is held over a distance of 1 mile and offers a massive prize of £1 million to the winner. Whilst it would be expected that such a large prize would attract a competitive field the presence of wonder-horse Frankel appears to make the race less than competitive.

Whether the odds-on price of 4/7 will attract horse betting punters or have them looking towards the each way places is debatable but the strong chances for Sir Henry Cecil’s charge are very difficult to argue against.

The horse has won every one of his eight races including a demolition of the challengers in the 2,000 Guineas. The short price is certain to curtail the level of horse bets backing the superstar animal but his chances are very strong and it will take a brave punter to back against him winning.

However, the race does offer some reasonably attractive betting opportunities in the each way market with some betting firms offering terms of ¼ odds paid to 3 places.

This has tempted some punters with Immortal Verse (6/1) and Excelebration (6/1) garnering support. Of the two, Excelebration appears the most attractive to back with the Marco Botti-trained three-year-old coming into the race fresh from victory in the Prix Du Moulin at Longchamp.

At a bigger price, Dick Turpin could prove a good bet. The Richard Hannon-trained bay colt has a good record and at the odds available of 25/1 there is every opportunity of the horse claiming a place. The 1 mile distance is ideal and he will be one animal offering some value on the day.
