Captain's Blog - Tuesday 26th June 2012

It was so nice to get out in the garden in the sunshine yesterday. In truth I had forgotten what the sun looked like and for once it was a pleasure just to mow the lawn and then sit back with a cup of tea and admire the slightly wonky lines that I had created. I believe that the weather is set fair for today as well and I am planning to make the most of it. There are a few bits and bobs that need sorting out in the garden and my daughter will be keen to spend a lot of the day in her new sandpit. All in all a day outside awaits me and I am not complaining.

I was hoping to bring you some speed figure analysis from Royal Ascot today, but whilst I have all the necessary raw data I am taking a look at all the sectionals beore formulating final figures. I believe that Frankel ran a figure somewhere in the region of 125 and Black Caviar about 112. Sea Moon looks to have posted a big figure as well, in the region of 116. I will hopefully have the full set of figures for you tomorrow.

My selection today is Toga Tiger in the 5.15 at Brighton. This horse is not going to be any sort of price that will enable you to pay your mortgage off, but I need a winner desperately here on the blog and this horse should get the job done for me. This horse was impressive when winning at the track last time, showing a good turn of foot and surely his current handicap mark underplays his ability. He can overcome a 6lb penalty and complete a hat trick.

I must offer my condolences to everyone closely connected to Campbell Gillies who has tragically passed away whilst on holiday. He was an excellent jockey and will be missed by many.
