O’Brien Relishing Frankel Challenge
16/08/12

Horse racing trainer Aidan O’Brien is looking forward to sending out St Nicholas Abbey to challenge the world famous Frankel later this month when the two compete in the International Stakes at York.

St Nicholas Abbey

The five-year-old is a highly-rated horse and O’Brien believes that Frankel will need to be on top form to beat St Nicholas Abbey on the 22nd August. Those over at BetVictor note how Sir Henry Cecil’s horse isn’t unbeaten in 12 races for nothing though and it would be one of O’Brien’s greatest wins should he pull it off.

Nevertheless, he is confident and believes that his International Stakes hope is well prepared to at least compete for glory.

He said: “The Juddmonte was always going to be one of the races that St Nic could run in. We were happy with his run in the King George. He relaxed, travelled and quickened really well.”

“We've always thought the world of him. He is a very exciting horse. And we still think he is on the upgrade.”

"We're looking forward to seeing him run at York - and watching Frankel. Frankel is a great horse and it's just a privilege to see him run, really.”

Part of the problem for this race of course, if the likes of St Nicholas Abbey are not in good form, is that it could be too easy for Frankel. For such a high-profile race this wouldn’t be ideal. The more competitive the better as far as many horse racing tips are concerned.

Frankel is in great shape though and according to Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford admits that this overwhelming favourite for the race is head and shoulders above the rest.

Crisford commented: “Frankel is the best horse in the race by a long, long way and if he runs to his form then he will win.”

“But Farhh is in good form. We will weigh up the options and he will also get an entry in the Sky Bet Strensall Stakes.”

So, with the rest of the field hoping that Frankel has an off day, you can watch the action unfold on the 22nd August 2012.
