Hillstar looks a Group horse in the making
Just two bets for me on a busy day of Racing today. Firstly the nap of the day.
I like the chances of Hillstar in the 3.15 at Newbury. I thought he ran well in defeat behind Soviet Rock at Newmarket last time and that horse has gone on to win since.
On the day, I felt that Soviet Rock was given too much rope out in front at a track which for years has favored front runners. Thus Hillstar did well in the circumstances and more importantly proved that he can run quickly over 10 furlongs. His official mark of 92 is far from restrictive and this horse could be a Pattern race performer in the making.
My next best bet of the day comes in the JLT Lockinge Stakes. I think that Farhh is the class act in the field, and easy ground will suit him. In fact soft ground is probably what he wants. Last year on his seasonal reappearance he won the Thirsk Hunt Cup in a very fast time on soft ground. After that he ran well in top-class company five times, but never raced on soft ground again. Easy conditions will suit him today and his form behind Frankel and Nathaniel last year make him the one to beat. The likes of Declaration Of War and Fencing have great potential to improve, but Farhh has been there and done it and conditions look likely to suit him.
I thought the interview that Frankie Dettori did on Channel 4 was interesting and at times revealing. He is a man who has always been at his best when his confidence is sky high. Clearly he is short on that vital commodity at the moment and thus perhaps his decision to do the interview at this time was ill-conceived. From his point of view he may have been better to have come back quietly, got winners on the board and then with his confidence right up there he would have performed a lot better in the type of scenario he was faced with yesterday. In essence it is time for the talking to stop and for Frankie to get on with his job. Mistakes made, punishment given and served, and time to move on now and show us that he is still a world class jockey.
3.50 Newbury - Farhh
