An each-way double at Cheltenham anybody?

Following two winners last Saturday it is going to be a tough ask, but we have plenty of units to go to war with courtesy of Jack Dexter at 7-2 and Four Winds at 10-1.

As I watched yesterday's action at Cheltenham I was reminded of the importance of course form when it comes to finding winners at the track.

In general I believe course form is wrongly put on the back burner when it comes to form study by some, but at Cheltenham it is vital.

A rundown of the winners on day one of the Paddy Power meeting highlights this fact.

Handy Andy - A close up fourth at the track recently when he probably should have won.

Anay Turge - Previous course winner

Taquin Du Seuil - one run at the track at the Festival behind The New One.

Thomas Crapper - previous course winner

Balthazar King - previous course winner

Quick Jack - no previous course form.

That tally shows us that only one horse had not run at Cheltenham before, and three of the six winners were previous course winners.

It therefore goes without saying that horses with previous form will dominate my selections today.

I am going to start with Johns Spirit in the BetVictor Gold Cup. He was tremendously impressive when winning at the track a month ago and looked to be an improved performer.

The likely fast pace will suit him, as he is a confirmed hold up performer. I can see him creeping round the inside before being delivered with a challenge late by Richie McLernon. At 8-1 he should be backed each-way.

My second selection is Tour Des Champs in the Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham at 1.50. This horse ran very well to be second at the track last time in a valuable staying chase and that should have put him spot on for this contest.

He is a strong stayer at this trip of three miles three furlongs and looks to be a progressive stayer. As with Johns Spirit he should be backed each way at 8-1.

You could back both of these in singles, but why not try and knock the ball out of the park and have an each-way double. Nothing ventured nothing gained, I guess.

Angus's Saturday tips:

1.50 Cheltenham: Tour Des Champs each-way at 8-1 with bet365and Paddy Power
