Juddmonte confirms Enable is back in training as sights are set on historic third Arc victory

It’s been quite a year for Enable and trainer John Gosden.

After clinching a second straight win in the Prix de l’Arc Triomphe in October, Enable was also victorious in The Breeders’ Cup earlier this month to become the first racehorse in history to complete such a feat.

The four year old filly has really demonstrated her worth with five Group 1 wins in 2017, including successes at the Epsom Oaks, the Irish Oaks and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

But what of next year?

Juddmonte Farms have recently confirmed that Enable will stay in training to focus on clinching a third successive Arc win, a move which is certain to delight her fans. After the Breeders’ Cup success, it was unclear what owner Prince Khalid’s next move would be, but Enable will be primed for a potential third victory at Longchamp.

Juddmonte’s official Twitter account confirmed the following: ”We are pleased to announce that dual Arc winner and recent Breeders’ Cup heroine Enable will stay in training for 2019. A third Arc will be her main target.”

Gosden and Prince Khalid are expected to work tirelessly to ensure that a hat-trick of Arc successes falls Enable’s way, which will strengthen her position as one of the all-time greats. It won’t be easy, but after her recent successes you wouldn’t bet against it. Just as the Breeders’ Cup demonstrated.

Breeders’ Cup Win

The filly’s victory across the pond was certainly a spectacle to behold. After a strong start, Enable held off the challenge of Irish horse Magical to win by less than a length with Sadlers’ Joy clinching third spot. It was a brilliant race and even though Magical pushed hard, Enable held off the challenge magnificently.

The Breeders’ Cup success has certainly put the gloss on what has been a fantastic year for Enable, and race fans from across the globe will be eager to see what lies in wait for 2019. With that said, she has struggled with injuries and setbacks earlier this year but a brilliant end to the season will see the four year old enter the new year in blistering form.

Prix de l’Arc Successes

If 2017’s victory wasn’t considered one of Enable’s finest races then the 2018 success was a joy to behold. In what was perhaps one of the most exciting races of the year, Enable defended her crown tremendously after a late burst from Sea Of Class.

The last 100 metres or so saw the two fillies jostle to cross the line, with Sea Of Class romping through the 19-pack field to miss out by a neck in what was a pulsating climax to a scintillating race. A truly wonderful piece of sporting action that’ll live long in the memory.

2019

Looking back on 2018, there’s not much more success that could have fallen Enable’s way and punters will be desperate to beat the bookies again next year. Before Enable is back in action, though, the King George race odds for Boxing Day are available with Might Bite the early favourite.
