Difficult Donativum Finds Valuable Winning Ways After Being Gelded
04/10/08

1st 4 Donativum 33/1
2nd 1 Crowded House 12/1
3rd 17 Nasri 7/1

Donativum, a 120,000gns son of Cadeaux Genereux, swooped late for victory in the inaugural Tattersalls Timeform Million, winning by half a length at 33/1.

A confident John Gosden said: “His form was solid and I wasn’t worried about the 33/1. He’s been working extremely well. He ran in a maiden at Leicester and the horse that won the Chesham (Free Agent) won it and he knocked him over.

“He doesn’t like to run in a straight line, he likes to run all over the place. So we gelded him and he came back and won his maiden in fine style.”

Gosden continued: “He’ll definitely get a mile - his brother won at Del Mar in California and it’s a tough, top of the ground family. He’s always had a lot of ability but he had a bit of a way about him which had to be dealt with. I don’t think he’ll run again this season.”

MEEHAN DELIGHTED WITH SECOND AND THIRD IN TATTERSALLS MILLION

Manton handler Brian Meehan was delighted with the performances of Crowded House (a 75,000 guineas purchase) and Nasri (a 130,000 guineas purchase), who finished second and third respectively in the first running of the Tattersalls Timeform Million, the most valuable sales race ever run.

Crowded House, a 12/1 chance, went down by half a length under Mick Kinane, just failing to repel the challenge of Donativum while 7/1 hope Nasri was a further length back in third under Jamie Spencer after holding every chance in the final furlong.

Meehan said: “Ask me tomorrow morning for my reaction, I’m still trying to take it all in!

“I am delighted with the performances of my two runners. Absolutely thrilled.

“I am not sure about future plans this season. We need to go home digest what has happened today first.

“I would hope both horses could develop into Guineas contenders next year.”
