The thundery showers which are forecast for Newmarket are now not set to arrive until lunchtime on Saturday, with around three millimetres expected before more prolonged rain arrives Saturday night, which is due to clear on Sunday morning and could bring another six millimetres.

	Footstepsinthesand grabbed the UltimatePoker.com 2000 Guineas at Newmarket to get the new partnership of Kieren Fallon and Aidan O'Brien off to a Classic start. Leading over a furlong out, the 13-2 shot bounded up the hill to take the colts' Classic over the Rowley Mile from two 100-1 shots, Rebel Rebel and Kandidate.

	Kieren Fallon steered Virginia Waters home in the UltimatePoker.com 1000 Guineas to land a remarkable owner, trainer and jockey guineas double. The pair were successful in the colts' equivalent with Footstepsinthesand on Saturday and the 12-1 shot flew late to capture the fillies' race in some style as she left Maids Causeway toiling back in second.

	Haafhd gave trainer Barry Hills and his jockey-son Richard a convincing victory in the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Haafhd hit the front two furlongs out and the 11-2 shot galloped on strongly to beat Snow Ridge (8-1) by a length and three-quarters, with Azamour (25-1) a further length away in third.

	Attraction holds off the late rattle of Sundrop to win the 1,000 Guineas. Hathrah fills third behind the Mark Johnston-trained winner, ridden by Kevin Darley.

	The Rowley Mile Course has been home to the first two of the five great "classic" Races, the One Thousand Guineas and the Two Thousand Guineas, since 1814 and 1809 respectively.

	2000 Guineas Stakes History
	The Guineas meeting, held at the historic Newmarket course, hosts the first Classics of the Flat season. The 2,000 Guineas is for three-year-old colts and fillies and is run on the famous Rowley Mile course.
