By Dylan Jenear ValueChecker Mijhaar Can Outpoint Nathaniel Nathaniel heads the ante-post lists for the St Leger and he is worthy of his position at the head of the betting for the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot on Friday. John Gosden’s charge was only just edged out by Treasure Beach in the Chester Vase last month, form which was given a timely boost when the latter was runner-up in the Derby. However, he’s up against a couple of highly promising types in Mijhaar and World Domination, and the vote goes to the former who looked a colt going places when bolting up in a Haydock maiden in May. Admittedly, this is a big step up in class, but the second and third from that maiden have both won well subsequently, and Mijhaar falls very much into the ‘could be anything’ category. It also augurs well that he was runner-up on soft ground in his sole start as a two-year-old, so further rain would not be an issue. The ground is a bit of a worry where World Domination is concerned given his pedigree. The son of Empire Maker was propelled to the fore in the Derby betting following his taking debut victory at Newbury in April, but Epsom aspirations were cast aside after the colt could finish only fourth behind Carlton House in the Dante at York. While his effort on the Knavesmire was a shade disappointing, he’s well worth another chance, given that he was clearly unsuited by the steady early pace on that occasion. The step up to a mile and a half should be in his favour, so if he does handle the conditions he should have a big say in the finish. Recommendation: MIJHAAR
