Bumper Stars Sweeps Hill and Shinrock Paddy Win Over Hurdles 28/10/09

Three of Ireland’s top bumper horses Sweeps Hill, Some Present and Shinrock Paddy continued their progress over hurdles at Punchestown on Wednesday.

Sweeps Hill and Some Present locked horns in the opening race of the day the Tote Sport Lounge Novice Hurdle.

Unfortunately, the race was run at a snail’s pace until the third last when the two market rivals went on from the other two runners in the race.

The pair then jumped the last side by side, but Sweeps Hill got the upper hand in the final few hundred yards and eventually went on to win by an easy ¾ of a length.

William Hill believe that there was nothing to be learned from the race and they’ve left Sweeps Hill and Some Present unchanged at 16-1 and 25-1 respectively for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

Another of Ireland’s top bumper horses Shinrock Paddy made a nice debut over hurdles in the Punchestown Event Centre Maiden Hurdle. Paul Nolan’s five-year old, who finished eighth in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, went on to win the race at odds of 1-2 and was given an opening show quote of 25-1 by Hills for the Supreme Novices Hurdle.

Last year’s Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner Dunguib remains the 5-2 favourite for the Supreme Novices Hurdle.

Supreme Novices’ Hurdle : 5-2 Dunguib, 16-1 Rites of Passage, Sweeps Hill, 20-1 Lidar, 25-1 Bellvano, Luska Lad, Manyriverstocross, Shinrock Paddy, Some Present, Vino Griego, 33-1 Like Minded, Oscar Whisky, Sitting Tennant, 40-1 Candy Creek, Loosen My Load (EW 1/4 odds 1,2,3)
