Unbeaten Kayah Supplemented for Vodafone Oaks
26/05/07

A fabulous Vodafone Ladies Day is in prospect at Epsom Downs on Friday, June 1, following today’s six-day stage which saw 15 go forward for the fillies’ Classic, the Vodafone Oaks (4.05pm), including a supplementary entry in Kayah.

vodafone DerbyKayah was supplemented at the cost of £20,000 this morning for the Vodafone Oaks which is run, like the Vodafone Derby (June 2) and Vodafone Coronation Cup, over a mile and a half.

Trained by Ralph Beckett and owned by Jockey Club senior steward Julian Richmond-Watson, the unbeaten three-year daughter of the 1988 Derby winner Kahyasi joins a strong field for the Classic.

Kayah won the Listed totesport.com Oaks Trial at Lingfield Park earlier this month and Seb Sanders will ride her at Epsom Downs on Friday.

Only four fillies were withdrawn at today’s confirmation stage which means all the main hopes are set to line up in the Vodafone Oaks, including the ante-post favourite Passage Of Time and third market choice Light Shift, both trained by Henry Cecil who is seeking his eighth victory in the Epsom Downs Classic.

Second favourite Dalvina, trained by Ed Dunlop, is another acceptance, while Godolphin rely on Measured Tempo and Ireland’s champion trainer Aidan O’Brien can still pick from a four-strong team consisting of All My Loving, Silkwood, Cherry Hinton and Nell Gwyn.

Andrew Cooper, Clerk of the Course and Director of Racing at Epsom Downs, said today: “Both the Vodafone Oaks and Vodafone Coronation Cup are shaping up very well for what will be a fabulous day’s racing on June 1.

“The ground is currently good, with a going-stick reading of 8.0. We are expecting rain tonight or tomorrow, with more to come on Monday and Tuesday, so we will see what happens. The weather is forecast to improve after that.”
