Jm Jungle added another valuable sprint prize to his record with a strong-finishing success.
The ultra-consistent sprinter has become a familiar face in major handicaps for John and Sean Quinn and had already landed a notable victory at York last summer.
He returned to action on the Knavesmire just a week earlier, finishing third as favourite, but bounced back in style on Derby day.
Always travelling strongly under Jason Hart, Jm Jungle moved into contention approaching the final furlong while Hollie Doyle and Spartan Arrow attempted to make full use of the favoured rail.
However, the 7-1 chance delivered his challenge down the centre of the track and finished powerfully to score by half a length.
Quinn said: “He’s been running really well and sometimes in racing you don’t always get what you deserve, but he probably deserved a win like that.
“This season he’s bumped into a couple of very well-handicapped horses, but he’s continued to run his race every time and done us proud.
“It’s great to see him get his reward.
“There’s nothing suitable for him at Royal Ascot, but we’ll head back to York in three weeks and he absolutely loves Goodwood, so I’d imagine we’ll be looking at races there later in the summer as well.”
Hart added: “He’s deserved that and it’s great to see him get his day.
“I rode him in the three-year-old Dash here a couple of seasons ago and got trapped behind a wall of horses. I could never really get him into a rhythm and he didn’t enjoy the track that day.
“This time I was able to stay out on a wing, keep his momentum going and I think that made a big difference.
“These races are great fun when they go your way.”
