Stand Takes Top Summer Honours
25/10/04
Take The Stand was named as the British Horseracing Board’s
inaugural Summer Jumping Champion at a ceremony at Market Rasen today.
Peter Bowen’s charge received the award in recognition of his performances
and his contribution to raising the profile of jumping over the summer
months.
The eight-year-old was second in a handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot in
June, before carrying top weight to victory in both the English Summer
National at Uttoxeter and the Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap Chase at
Newton Abbot.
Take The Stand’s stable staff were presented with a cheque for £5,000
by BHB marketing director Chris John.
Presentations were also made to Peter Bowen, and The Courters – the
partnership that owns the gelding.
“
I am delighted that Take The Stand has been named BHB summer jumping
champion, and particularly pleased to have presented Peter Bowen’s
stable staff with £5,000,” John said.
“
Take The Stand’s victories under top weight in two of the biggest
chases this summer were terrific achievements, and a tribute to all those
associated with the horse.
“
I hope that Take The Stand is able to continue progressing and make as
big an impact in the forthcoming winter jumping season.”

Seven in line for summer title
16/09/2004
Seven horses are in the running to be named the British Horseracing
Board's summer jumping champion when the announcement is made on Saturday
September 25.
The summer season reaches its climax at Market Rasen on September 25,
when the BHB will recognise the horse that has demonstrated the most
impact and contributed, through its performances, to raising the profile
of the sport.
The new initiative is intended to complement the jump racing review,
which pointed to the advantages of creating a greater distinction between
the summer and winter seasons.
A panel of industry experts has drawn up a list of seven horses that
fit the criteria.
They are First Ballot (trained by David Elsworth), Mr Ed (Peter Bowen),
Montreal (Martin Pipe), Numitas (Philip Hobbs), River City (Noel Chance),
Sardagna (Martin Pipe) and Take The Stand (Peter Bowen).
These will be whittled down to a short-list of three, with connections
of each invited to Market Rasen for the presentation.
