Persian Punch Statue to be Unveiled on Champions´ Day

A magnificent life-size bronze of Persian Punch, the most popular British Flat horse of the modern era who died last year, will be unveiled in a special ceremony at the Rowley Mile Racecourse before racing on Champions´ Day, Saturday, October 15. Persian Punch won more races at Newmarket than at any other venue.
Crafted during the course of this year by one of the world´s greatest equine sculptors, Philip Blacker, the bronze statue, which weighs three-quarters of a ton, features a galloping Persian Punch and will be placed near to the old winners´ enclosure where he enjoyed his final moment of glory after capturing his third Jockey Club Cup on Champions´ Day two years ago, when beating Millenary by a short-head.
"The unveiling of the Persian Punch statue will be an eagerly anticipated moment, an opportunity to celebrate the life and achievements of this remarkable horse," commented Lisa Hancock, Newmarket´s Managing Director.
"With the highest class raceday in the British flat racing calendar to follow, Saturday, October 15, will be a day to remember at the Home of Racing."
