Nacarat 4-1 Favourite for Racing Post Chase

The Tom George trained Nacarat heads William Hill’s betting for this weekend’s Racing Post Chase at Kempton. The nine year old, who won last year’s race, is aiming to become the first horse since Docklands Express (1991,1992) to record back-to-back wins in the prestigious race.

Madison Du Berlais, whose price has been slashed from 25-1 to 8-1 in recent days, looks set to be one of Nacarat’s chief rivals on Saturday. The David Pipe trained gelding, who will carry top weight in the three mile race, was due to run at Wincanton last weekend, but the weather scuppered those plans. Pipe has also left Piraya in the race.
Paul Nicholls’ sole entry in the race is Fistral Beach. The seven year old won the williamhill.com Handicap Chase at Kempton on the 16th of January, and he is rated a 6-1 chance to record back-to-back wins at the Surrey venue.
Other notable contenders among the sixteen confirmations include last year’s runner-up Possol, and the 2005 RSA Chase winner Trabolgan.
William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny said “Nacarat blitzed the opposition in last year’s race, and although he’s gone up a fair bit in the handicap – he still looks like the one to beat.” He continued “Madison Du Berlais has been the real steamer in our Racing Post Chase betting. He was available at 25-1 on Sunday morning, but a sustained gamble has forced us to cut his odds into 8-1.”
