Captain's Blog - 12th July 2010

Spain were the better side and deserved to win, but can journalists and pundits stop going on about Holland being dirty and over aggressive in last nights World Cup Final. Yes they played hard and gave the Spanish a tough time but that is sport. There was some tough tackling from the Dutch, they did not just stand back and let the Spanish run rings around them, they got stuck in and fought every step of the way. I did not notice any of Spain’s players being carried off on a stretcher or indeed limping off so how bad can the tackling have been? The Dutch had a tough game plan and executed it well, in the end though the side that played the best football won the day and that is as it should be, but the Dutch were not dirty, they just played hard and tough and that should be expected in a World Cup Final.

I must admit I was pleased that it was a close tight game because I had staked a few quid on there being under two and a half goals in ninety minutes, the money was in the sack and the sack was stashed away under my bed before extra time began which in terms of punting was a nice way to start the week. I just need to keep the momentum going today. I have a day off today but will not be watching any Racing as I am under strict instructions to get some shopping done and to finish the painting that I started over the weekend. Most of the dining room has been decorated, but I have the dreaded skirting boards still to gloss, once they are done the paint brush can go back into the shed where it belongs.

Racing UK swings back into action today with all of the action from Ayr. The rest of the week is a busy one on your favourite Racing Channel and I will be in Teddington on a couple of occasions this week as well as presenting from Epsom on Thursday night. For now though I need to get into my painting clothes and attack the remaining unpainted parts of the dining room. I am far from enthusiastic about this particular project but we all have to do stuff that we dont like from time to time.

Enjoy your Monday.
