Captain's Blog - 13th July 2010

A day in the booth for me today helping out with our coverage from Beverley and Musselburgh. With the rain falling I will be leaving the bike firmly in the shed today, but the inclement weather will at least serve to give my thirsty garden a decent drink. The lawn in particular needs plenty of the wet stuff to take it from brown to green. Indeed most of the garden could do with a day of rain if only to prevent me spending another hour or so with watering can in hand late into the night.

I did not have any bets yesterday due to the need to go shopping for some household necessities that was probably a good decision given that my selection Grand Diamond bombed out big time. My other selection was fortunately a non runner which probably saved me from further humiliation. Not to worry today is another day and where there is life there is hope or something like that. In terms of punting I am thinking of having a few interest bets on the open Golf that starts later this week and am tempted by Justin Rose. He has found out how to win and is no longer a bottler, he has slowed his game down and looks more in control of his game than ever before. I used to always oppose him when the going got tough, but since birth of his son he has new found belief and strength. He will play the first two rounds alongside Tiger Woods who is not playing well. That said he has won twice at St Andrews and the wide fairways mean that he will not be punished for his wayward driving. Even if the course suits surely Tiger is still mentally in the wrong place and will find it hard to focus properly for all four rounds. On balance it’s Justin Rose for me and at 25/1 or thereabouts he is a fair each way bet. With a bit of luck he will give me an interest right throughout the tournament.

I need to head off to Teddington now to get ready for today’s Broadcast. Have a good one and back plenty of winners.

Today’s Selections

4.30 Beverley – Tournedos ( 2/1 Sky Bet )

3.00 Beverley – Ninth House ( each way 11/2 Stan James )
