Captain's Blog - 15th July 2010

Benandonner was a 7/1 winner for us here on the blog yesterday and many thanks to Jessica1 for some kind words regarding this winner yesterday. We had been having a slightly tepid run so this has given us a boost and has certainly got us into profit for the week. Lets hope there are plenty more where that came from.

The British Open has started and so has the BBC coverage so I am typing this whilst watching Tiger and his pals battle the elements at St Andrews. I am particularly interested in the group that are playing with Tiger because I have backed Justin Rose to win and he has just drained a birdie on the first to give me some hope at the start of what is a marathon for punters. When you bet on Golf you need your man to have a good first round to give you hope, then make the cut so that he is there over the weekend and after that you just want to be in contention come the final round. It really is a minefield for punters but it is a great sporting event and lends itself well to a few small interest bets and plenty of relaxation on the sofa watching these players play some top golf.

I am working at Epsom tonight for Racing UK and Dave Nevison will be my guest. The Racing is competitive and there are more runners there this week than last, so the each way thieves will be able to come out of their caves for some action tonight. I am just hoping that the predicted strong winds and driving rain do not arrive as our camera position in the paddock at Epsom is anything but protected. Not to worry it should be an excellent evening of sport. Join Dave and myself from around 5.45pm.

Padraig Harrington has just double bogeyed the first, what a nightmare for him and his supporters. He smashed his second shot into the water and then took three more shots to get the job done. I am glad I didn’t back him. Rose and Tiger both have birdie putts on the second, so I am going to leave you now and check my bets. If all my boys can play well today I could conceivably be looking at a beautiful sea of green come tonight. Now that would be a nice way to go into the weekend.

All the best.
