Captain's Blog - 19th July 2010 There is nothing better than a day in the sun watching live sport. Yesterday we jumped in the car and headed south to the Rose Bowl to watch Hampshire take on Sussex in a Friends Provident 20/20 game. The game was set up to be a cracker with Hampshire needing to win to make the quarter finals of the competition and Sussex, who had already qualified, looking to win to ensure they got a home tie in the quarters. I was driving so a few beers in the sun was off the agenda, but we packed an extensive picnic and arrived in plenty of time. I was slightly shocked at the cost for two of us to park the car and get into the ground which amounted to £50, they must have seen us coming, but I have to say it was well worth it. Hampshire batted first and clobbered their way to 195 which was going to be a hard target to chase. Sussex gave it a good go, but never looked like getting there and checked out tamely with 150 all out. I enjoyed every moment of the day and it has to rank as one of the best days out I have had all summer. There was a good atmosphere and the Rose Bowl itself is a beautiful ground, if you ever get the chance to watch some 20/20 there then I would thoroughly recommend it. Indeed I am tempted to get some tickets for finals day later in August when they play two semi finals and the final in one day, but that may be overkill and perhaps I should just live with the memory of yesterday and leave it at that. No such delights for me today, although I will be doing some work in the garden which is nice in itself but its not cricket. In terms of work this week I am a bit of a night owl with an evening in the booth tomorrow and then a night at Epsom and Salisbury later in the week. Then next week I will be in the booth for all the action from Glorious Goodwood except for Saturday when I am under strict instructions to attend a car boot sale where we will be selling some tat along with other tat sellers. There is nothing like a good clear out. Saturday was a good day for us here on the blog with Five Star Junior winning for us at 6/1. I kind of doubled up by putting this up as my "at the prices" selection on Mark Your Card, so I hope some of you got involved. Of course now I have set myself up for a fall today, but we can live in hope that the dose can be repeated today. Always the Sun!
Today’s Selections 2:30 Ayr – Loukoumi (each way 5/1 Sky Bet ) 7:40 Windsor – Hairspray (each way 10/1 Ladbrokes )
