Angus McNae

Captain's Blog - 11th August 2010

I am heading to Huddersfield at 12.00 today and with a decent run should make it to the Junction Inn from where we will be broadcasting by 3.30pm. That will give me enough time to acquaint myself with the Landlord and his Racing mad clients. We will be part of the show that is based at Sandown tonight and hosted by Nick Luck. We will dip in and out of that broadcast with a few interviews and some thoughts on the evenings racing. All in all it should be a fun and interesting evening and it is certainly a ground breaking broadcast as far as is concerned. Dave Nevison will be joining me and as I am doing the driving he will be the one able to enjoy a few beers with the punters up the junction. Make sure you tune in this evening.

Prior to setting off for the Junction Inn I will be spending some time having a look at tonight’s cards and also getting the sat nav set up for the long trip as well as filling up with fuel and oil. I am hoping that the speed cameras that have been such a nuisance on the M1 recently are not there any more and that we get a clean run, but I suspect that is a forlorn wish. With a bit of luck I should be back at McNae towers by 1.00am tomorrow morning and ready for a good kip. I do not mind long car journeys too much but we could do without any serious hold ups.

The Ebor meeting at York is but a few days away, but although it will be as exciting as ever there are going to be some notable omissions. It looks as if Rebel Soldier will miss the Voltigeur as he is being sold to race in Hong Kong. Imposing will miss the Ebor as he has been sold to race in Australia. Theology will miss the Voltigeur and head straight to the St Leger and now Aidan O’Brien has stated that Rip Van Winkle and Cape Blanco although ready to run in the Juddmonte International are not certain starters. Add the retired Harbinger to the mix and we will be missing some key players next week. The meeting will still be an enthralling one and of course Aidan may well decide to run the Rip which would give the meeting a lift. You will be able to see it all with us on and whoever turns up it will be well worth the watch.

Time for me to get ready for a long day. Our each way selection Edgewater was third at 6/1 yesterday so no damage done.

Today’s Selections

5:25 Beverley – Country Road (each way 8/1 Sky Bet )

5:20 Hamilton – Botham (each way 9/2 William Hill)
