Tanya's Blog - 6th September 2010

Paul Nicholls Open day yesterday gives the reassuring feeling the drama, buzz, enchantment of the National Hunt season is just a few weeks away – OK there has been summer jumping but Cheltenham and Aintree have not yet opened their doors for the season and that’s for me when it matters.

Haydock which is where Denman will be headed in November was raucous and boisterous on Saturday, no atmosphere is like it and give those in attendance their due, the majority love their racing and love a bet. Many asked where John McCririck was, hang on everyone he’ll be back at Newbury on September 18 for now he is on duty for Big Brother.

Congratulations James Given and Indian Days for the win in Turkey what a boost ahead of Dandino’s challenge in the Ladbrokes St Leger. Let’s hope the predicted rain doesn’t wash his chances away.

The better half’s birthday today so I’m going to be a bit busy, at least the gifts received a massive thumbs up.

I couldn’t tip my hat at present although I did take on Rip Van Winkle in the Irish Champion but winners are extinct at present. Not good ahead of the next leg of the press tipping competition which starts on Wednesday.

Confidence improves form and surely Silk Bounty shouldn’t be 14-1 in Newcastle’s 2.20, certainly worth an each-way bet considering he is trained by James Given. Luca Cumani looks all set to have two winners at Bath, Isobar and Baoli, 4.10 and 4.40 respectively. Then at Newton Abbot Caheerloch and Sam Twiston-Davies in the 3.30 look the order of the day.
