Ascot Saturday - Latest Meon Valley Stud News

Date With Destiny, trained by Richard Hannon, has always carried with her a sense of intrigue and interest as she is the only foal of failed sire George Washington.

After a successful debut, the filly was beaten a long way behind Theyskens' Theory in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood and there is no obvious reason to expect the placings to be reversed on Saturday. That said, Date With Destiny’s owner Julie Wood is keen to chase the black type on Saturday. Trainer Richard Hannon told his website,  "I can see where she is coming from as the race has cut up and the chance of some black type for such a high-profile filly is too good to miss, but obviously we know it will be tough as White Moonstone and Theyskens' Theory have looked two high-class youngsters and are proven in Group company,"

Brian Meehan, who trains Theyskens' Theory, told ValueChecker "She was most impressive in her maiden at Newmarket and then in her Group Three win at Goodwood. She has a great chance," Winner of  her two races, she is currently among the market leaders for the 1,000 Guineas.

Both those mentioned face a Godolphin rival who has looked as though she could be exceptional. White Moonstone has won all 3 of her races in superb style and in a relatively short timeframe, leaving her Group 2 rivals for dead last time and she could be the one. She is also to the forefront of the Guineas betting, although it is worth noting that the Godolphin horses are not always at their peak at that time of year.

On Friday's card, Richard Hanon must have a chance in the 4.20 with his improving 3-y-o Kajima but I rather like John Gosden's runner MASS RALLY. The topweight clearly has the ability to defy this mark and he has a good record on polytrack, something always useful coming here. In addition, he was fourth on this turf in a 30K handicap in July and hopefully the visor will just sharpen him up at the business end.
