Eddie Ahern Injured in a Fall at Bath - Seb Sanders at Brighton Tuesday 28/09/10

Eddie Ahern was injured in a fall at the Bath track yesterday in thick fog and the meeting was subsequently abandoned after a similar incident in the 4.30 as Liam Jones suffered the same fate, but this time without injury.

Ahern is due to ride Approve at Newmarket in the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes on Friday His injury is to his collar bone, but at this stage we don't know how serious it will be and indeed if he will have to stand down for any length of time. He was having x-rays last night and we await the outcome of the results.

Liam Jones said that after the finishing line the horses were running into a wall of fog. This is something that can also happen on the elevated course at Brighton where there is a meeting this Tuesday. Often the mist is called a sea fret as it rolls up the hills and off the sea on the South Coast. It can appear in minutes and obscure most of the horseshoe shaped track.

Brighton is a course for specialists, with is undulating surface and steep uphill testing finish. Both trainers and jockeys can be followed on the West Sussex track with much success. Jockeys such as Ryan Moore, Seb Sanders have the highest strike rates on the Downs over the years. Ryan Moore rides at Newbury on Tuesday but Seb Sanders has a book full of rides, and is worth keeping an eye on.

In the final race at 5.05pm, the AMC Security Systems handicap he rides Even Bolder from a good draw over the sprint distance. His form has been looking like he is ready to score just recently. His main rival could be Ajjaadd, ridden by another jockey worth following at Brighton, Steve Drowne. He has course and distance form and again is drawn well just inside Seb Sanders mount.
