Captain's Blog - 2nd October 2010

I am a little bleary eyed this morning having spent most of yesterday at a wedding. It was a long day and a real test of stamina, but I came through unscathed and was up at 7.00am to watch the resumption of the Ryder Cup which fortunately is blessed with decent weather today. I am watching with some trepidation because I had a reasonable bet on Westwood and Kaymer to beat Mickleson and Johnson in the opening match and at the moment they are two up with three to play which means I should collect but we all know what happens to those bets that should have been winners!

I will not be rooted to the sofa all day as we are heading out shortly to do some shopping, as you do when the Ryder Cup is on! Then we will be heading to a local pub to meet yesterday's bride and groom and a few of the other guests for something of a debrief, lets hope the pub has Sky Sports. I have never seen the point of these after wedding get togethers, we all saw enough of each other at the wedding itself. They are little more than an excuse to head to the pub for a hair of the dog or two. Anyway we will not be staying for long because today is Grand Final day, the day when the mighty Saint Helens take on Wigan in what is the climax to the Super League season at Old Trafford. This game though is more than a final it involves two teams who are local rivals and whose fans despise each other. We will make sure we are at home and tuned in at 5.00pm for all the build up and then the game itself. If you have never watched Rugby League before give this game a go, it is sure to be brutal and thrilling at the same time.

One of our two selections yesterday was placed at 5/1 so we did not do too much damage in what has been a good week overall. The Racing at Newmarket today is excellent but winner finding will be tough given the testing ground conditions. There were some big winning distances yesterday and I would anticipate something similar today. We will be on air at 1.00pm with Mark Your Card where th eup and coming Michael Wilson will be your host. He will be joined by Dave Nevison who has hardly been out of the studio in the last seven days. We must let him out to air his sleeping bag next week and to get some more supplies!

Time to bring this to an end for another week. Have a great sporting day!
