Cecil aims Twice Over at the Dubai World Cup
17/10/10

Twice Over will once again be aimed at the Dubai World Cup after winning the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday for the second year in what was a vintage afternoon for a resurgent Henry Cecil.

The master handler sent out the seriously impressive Frankel to win the Dewhurst earlier in the afternoon and Twice Over was always travelling well in the Champion Stakes to complete a memorable Group 1 double.

Cecil said "I was very pleased with him (Twice Over) going into it and it's lovely when things go right. He'll have a nice rest now and hopefully we'll have a go at the Dubai World Cup again. It's a race I'd like to win for the Prince (Khalid Abdullah, owner). It's a lovely feeling. A few years ago on this day I was at Catterick. It's so lovely for the Prince - if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be here now. He's my favourite horse and will stay in training next year.”

Frankel got a bump leaving the stalls but soon recovered and left his rivals for dead in what was the best Dewhurst performance since Xaar in 1997.
Cecil commented: "He'd been relaxing well at home but that bump set him alight - in his work he is very relaxed, but when you get a nasty bump like that it makes a difference. But he won very well and he never had to hit him. It was lovely and I'm very lucky to have him. I'm hopeful that he will make a Guineas horse and maybe the St James's Palace, whether he will get further we'll have to see and I'll need to talk to the Prince about that.”

Currently Frankel is a best priced 5/4 for next year's 2,000 Guineas with some firms going as short as 4/5.

Sunday's racing doesn't compare but in the 3.35 at Newcastle, both Tariq Too and Amethyst Dawn appeal. The latter could be hard to get past if her stall 16 is advantageous but Tariq Too looks well handicapped and should handle the conditions.

Recommendation: 3.35 Newcastle - Tariq Too
