Captain's Blog - 19th October 2010 Captain Royale went in for us yesterday at the advised price of 14/1 and Ivory Lace was third at the same price. They provided us with a much needed profit and certainly made up for a moderate weekend. Lets hope this is the start of a decent run because October has thus far been a tricky month. If we are going to stay in profit we are all going to have to get to grips with the ever increasing jumps action whilst keeping an eye on the endless action from Kempton. As far as jump racing is concerned I am interested in the resiting of the second last fence at Cheltenham. This is an intertesting development designed to reduce the number of fallers at that fence. It was previously positioned on the downhill run to the home straight, it is now in the home straight. The presumption is that it a lot of horses have been falling at the second last because of its position on a slight downhill slope. Is this presumption correct though? Could it not be the case that a lot of horses fell at the old second last because that is when jockeys are starting to apply pressure to their mounts just at the time when they are getting tired? Tired horses under pressure will fall wherever the fences are situated and it will be interesting to see how casualty free the newly positioned second last fence actually is. We have only had two race days at Cheltenham thus far and the second last fence has claimed just two rivals so far from six races on the chase course. It will be interesting to monitor developments! The Sports news at the moment is full of Wayne Rooney news. The media are contemplating his future and some believe he is going for Man City before too long. My view is that any player who takes Sir Alex Ferguson on will lose and will end up leaving Man Utd. Sir Alex has tried to protect him from the media but Rooney has openly shunned that protection and now it seems inevitable that he will leave. Beckham, Stamm, Van Nistelroy and others took Fregie on and they all lost, Rooney will be no different. Of course if going to Man City on a huge wage, Rooney may think that he has won, but what he fails to recognise is that without the guiding hand of Sir Alex his career could go down the pan very quickly. Time for me to call it a day here once more. Lets hope we can bag a winner or two again today.
