Hughes Just 3 Behind Hanagan Going into Final Week

With just one week left to go in the Jockeys’ championship, Richard Hughes cut Paul Hanagan's lead to a slender three at Lingfield, riding two winners , one of which, Aurora Sky prevailed by the narrowest of margins from the favourite, Bahamian Music ridden by Hanagan.

The score now stands at 184-181 and Coral have sliced Hughes' odds to 9-4 from 7-2, with Hanagan easing to 1-3 from 1-6 for the crown.

"As we head into the final week, Richard Hughes is very much in contention for the championship," said Coral's David Stevens. "Paul Hanagan remains odds-on favourite to claim the title thanks to his slender lead and by virtue of the fact that Hughes will be in Kentucky next weekend to ride Paco Boy.”

By shopping around, you can find 4/9 and 9/4 but no bookmaker seems to be offering prices on the draw. I still think there could be a late pact between the pair if things are tight after the first few days next week but we will have to wait and see.

Richard Hughes can win the last race of the day at Wolverhampton on Roger Charlton’s Knockdolian. This lightly-raced 3-y-o was gelded over the summer and comes here nice and fresh. His comeback run last month was full of promise and he looks worth an interest.
