Ruby Sidelined – McCoy 1/5 to Star on Kauto
    08/11/10

The Racing world was left shocked on Saturday with the news that Ruby Walsh – having sustained a broken leg at Down Royal – will miss the ride aboard Kauto Star in the William Hill King George VI Chase.

The 31-year-old – who has partnered the Ditcheat hero to four consecutive wins in the Boxing Day highlight, will now devastatingly remain on the sidelines as another jockey takes the ride of a lifetime.

King George sponsors William Hill have priced-up who the likely pilot will be; making Tony McCoy their odds-on 1-5 favourite to be aboard the 14-time Grade One winner. Barry Geraghty - with a plethora of possible options - is quoted as their 4-1 second-favourite.

Following his Down Royal win on Saturday Kauto Star remains the 7-4 favourite to secure a fifth unprecedented win in the William Hill King George. But the rising 11-year-old faces one of his fiercest challenges ever against 5-1 chance Long Run, Gold Cup winner Imperial Commander (8-1), and stable mate What A Friend (8-1).

Kate Miller, spokeswoman for William Hill, said: ‘’Kauto stands on the cusp of racing immortality, and his winning jockey will be carried into history alongside him. Racing’s riding elite will be jostling for this ride, but we suspect that McCoy will be battering down the doors at Ditcheat to be on-board on Boxing Day.’’
