Christophe Soumillon New Favourite for Ballydoyle Post
09/11/10

William Hill have deleted Pat Smullen (the previous 6-4 favourite) from their market to become the next retained jockey at Ballydoyle following comments Dermot Weld made about his stable jockey.

Christophe Soumillon
is now the favourite

"Pat Smullen will be retained jockey for next season and hopefully for the foreseeable future. He is a world-class rider and has ridden Group 1 winners for me in Ireland, France and the United States.”

Christophe Soumillon is now the 15-8 favourite with William Hill who also offer 9-2 Kieren Fallon and 5-1 about Colm O’Domoghue.

‘Pat Smullen ticked all the required boxes to become the next Ballydoyle jockey,’ said Hills spokesman Tony Kenny ‘However, it looks like he’s going to stay loyal to Dermot Weld – and we’ve taken him out of our list.’

‘Christophe Soumillon is the new favourite for the job, but we’ve seen more money for Kieren Fallon and Colm O’Donoghue this morning.’

Next Retained Ballydoyle Stable Jockey: (William Hill bet) 15-8 Christophe Soumillon, 9-2 Kieren Fallon, 5-1 Colm O'Donoghue, 8-1 Fran Berry, Olivier Peslier, Richard Hughes, Ryan Moore, 10-1 William Buick, 12-1 Declan McDonogh, Jamie Spencer, Julien Leparoux, Steven Arnold, 14-1 Joseph O'Brien, Seamus Heffernan, Tom Queally, 16-1 Kent Desormeaux, 20-1 Garrett Gomez, Paul Hanagan, 33-1 Frankie Dettori, 50-1 Mike Smith – (Bets void if a new stable jockey isn’t announced by the end of 2011.
