Captain's Blog - 26th November 2010

Good Morning folks. I trust you are fit and well this Friday morning if a little cold. I am up early today to watch the last few overs from Brisbane where day 2 of the Ashes is underway. I swear this Ashes lark is going to see me suffering from sleep deprivation by the time we get to Christmas. I did go to bed at a reasonable hour to ensure that I could get up and plonk myself in front of the TV at an early hour, but it never seems to matter how early you go to bed, getting up early is never easy.

I am due in the office for an 11.00am start today on . Of course that is somewhat dependant on the weather which in some areas in the country is pretty bad at the moment. There is certainly a hard frost around these parts this morning as I can testify to having put the bins out first thing. No doubt our friendly neighborhood bin men will be out and about shortly although in adverse weather they have been known to either forget the idea of working completely or are at least late on parade. As long as they turn up then my jaunt down the garden at the crack of dawn in my Saint Helens pyjamas will not have been in vain.

Celestial Halo
Mussleburgh will race this afternoon after passing an inspection and hopes are very high for Newbury. This means I will be busy in the booth this afternoon getting involved in some tremendous action today. I am looking forward to seeing Celestial Halo resume his chasing career. He looked not too convincing with his fencing and duly hit the deck on his debut. If he has not brushed his jumping up significantly then the stiff Newbury fences are going to catch him out and the Nicky Henderson Spirit River will probably be the one to take advantage. He may be good enough even if Celestial stays on his feet and is almost certainly the value in the race.

Right, time for me to get organised and make my way into the office. Have a warm day!

Today's Selection

2:10 Newbury – Spirit River (6/4 Stan James )

3:05 Lingfield – Autumn Blades (each way 9/2 William Hill )
