Captain's Blog - 10th January 2011

What a momentous few days I have enjoyed. It all started at 2.00am Friday morning when my wife went into labour. Some 18 hours later we had a beautiful baby girl. Yes Jessica Rose has joined us and we are over the moon. She weighed in at an eye watering 9lb 7oz and I cannot tell you how proud I am of her. I am also in awe of my wife who went to hell and back more than once during those 18 long and tiring hours. After a couple of days to recover I was delighted to bring them home yesterday and now the fun starts! I managed three hours sleep last night but there is no way on Gods earth I can complain after what my wife went through on Friday. At least the little one is asleep now, a brief respite I suspect, but I am rather chuffed with myself for getting her to sleep after a torrid few hours. It is going to be a blast even though it will have to be one where sleep is not really on the agenda, for a while at least.

As a result of the above I am a little out of touch with the Racing action that took place over the weekend, but I am planning to watch Racing Replay from Sandown on Saturday and get myself up to speed with what happened. I have managed to see the Welsh National win of Synchronised and he will now be fancied by many for the Grand National itself in April. It may just be me but I am not convinced he would get round at Liverpool. He is a good enough jumper but has a tendency to shunt his backside to the left over his fences, especially under pressure. I do not know why he does it but Aintree is the place where jumping inadequacies are put to the severest of tests and it may be a test that is too much for Synchronised’s technique.

I need to call it a day on the blog now as we are expecting a health visitor to call on us shortly and I am under instructions to go out and buy cake and biscuits for this most important guest. Honestly I never get cake, and I live here! Not to worry I have entered a whole new world now and some hoops just have to be jumped through and I guess this is one of them.

I willl be back tomorrow folks but for today that’s all. Have a good one.
