Captain's Blog - 26th January 2011

I will be heading to the office shortly to prepare for some twilight action from Kempton and also to record Racing Replay from Musselburgh and Huntingdon. It is the start of a busy few days for me and I am particularly looking forward to getting involved in the coverage from Meydan tomorrow. The action in Dubai has always been one of my favourite Racing Festivals and it will be good to be back involved. With a fair wind myself and James Willoughby will have some speed figures from Meydan for everybody to look at in the next week or so which will add to our understanding of the racing there and which hopefully viewers will find interesting. We managed to use the figures to good effect at Nad Al Sheba and once we have formulated some standard times for Meydan we will have something to go with at Meydan as well. Be sure to join me in the studio tomorrow for all of the action from the desert.

We continued to be a little unlucky yesterday here on the blog with our selection as Sharp Shoes finished fourth at 25/1. Third would have been fine for a tidy profit, but when things are not going your way those big priced each way pokes always seem to finish fourth. I am going to keep trying to smash it out of the park though because sooner or later something good will happen I hope.

Eddie Freemantle will be my guest today in the studio and if you have any questions for him please get in touch at the usual address – [email protected]. We will have plenty of time to read your missives out as we try and find a few winners at Kempton. The card itself is quite a good one with some in form horses competing and a certain Seamie Heffernan who rode a double at the last Kempton fixture is back for more with two rides. I was impressed with the way he rode the track the other day, but in all honesty was not surprised given the excellent rides he has given some of Aiden O’Brien’s horses in the past.

Time for me to get ready for an interesting day. Have a good one.

Today’s Selection

2.45 Huntingdon – Salpierre (each way 7/2 )
