Captain's Blog - 9th February 2011

Nicky Henderson recorded his fastest ever century of winners yesterday when Higgys Ragazzo took the opener at Market Rasen. He has an enbarrasment of riches in his yard and many people believe that he will be the top trainer at the festival and the leading trainer at the end the National Hunt season. He is certainly in a very strong position to achieve both of those aims. He is always a man to be reckoned with when the big prize money is on offer and with Barry Geraghty on his side he has a no nonsense strong jockey. The problems that he had with the use of an anti bleeding drug have been swept aside and he marches on with seemingly only Paul Nicholls able to spoil the party for Henderson and his cohorts. We should not be glib about the Nicholls challenge for the National Hunt title but at the moment Henderson must be favourite to land the spoils.

I have a day off today to spend with the family before heading to the studio for a busy day tomorrow. Part of my day will be spent trying to work out how to operate a new mobile phone that I have acquired. It is an all singing and all dancing one, I am sure you have one and I am looking forward to downloading some APPS, at least that is what I think you do with these new fangled machines! Before APPS enter my thinkng I will need to work out how to switch it on though and given my record with other technical things I have encountered in my life that could be difficult. I will get there in the end and will have all the APP's I need probably by Christmas. In truth I do not need many, the one is a must though, as is the one that lets you record stuff on your Sky plus at home by simply pushing a button on your phone, genius.

I managed to get to the Gym yesterday for the second time in a week which given my daughters sleep pattern at the moment was a miracle! It was hard work though and after running for 45 minutes I was completely spent and when I was changing a nappy at 3.00am this morning I was more than wishing I had just done a 20 minute jog. Anyway, as my wife says the fitter I get the easier everything else will seem. She is right of course as always but it is going to be a tough and rocky road to fitness at the moment. I wonder if there is an APP for that!

will bring you racing from Carlisle, Ludlow and Kempton today. As ever please send your mails to [email protected] and we will read them out during the racing at Kempton.

That's it for now, all the best.
