Captain's Blog - 28th February 2011

There were many sporting events over the weekend to enjoy and whenever I could get a minute or two I was glued to the TV. To be honest sports fans were spoilt for choice. The One Day International game between India and England was magnificent and ended in a high scoring tie, the Carling Cup Final went to Birmingham who upset the perennial under achievers Arsenal and in Rugby League the suppsedly unbeatable Wigan were beaten by the NRL champions, St George Illawara. All these events had their stars but I would like to single out Sachin Tendulkar for his majestic knock against England in the Cricket World Cup. It was a measured and skilful performance and as he raised his bat to the crowd of 30,000 to celebrate his century my spine tingled, it was one of those moments when you can say I am glad I saw that. Andrew Strauss scored a hundred for England as well but he does not have the career record that Tendulkar has, nor is he as good a batsman. Tendulkar is artful and natural in his execution of the sport, Strauss, though excellent, is coached. I was of course delighted to see Wigan beaten as well, but that is just partisan nonsense on my part, but it made me smile to see them bite the dust at the hands of a superb defensive display from St George Illawara.

I am away from the office today and am on pram pushing duty before heading to the gym for a much needed work out. In truth I have not been going to the Gym much recently and I need to justify the amount I spend on membership every month. It will be hard work but a sever with exercise the thought of it is miles worse than the actual execution.

I hope you enjoyed all the action from Kempton on Saturday on your favourite Racing Channel. We will be up and running again this afternoon with all the action from Catterick. I will be back in action towards the end of the week and am particularly looking forward to Super Thursday in Dubai which is a warm up event for the World Cup meeting.

Time to get the pram rolling!
