Captain's Blog - 13th April 2011

The Craven Meeting starts today and it has always been a fixture that I have enjoyed. Indeed every year it brings back fond memories of when my parents would take my sister and I to the meeting. We would stay in a local hotel and would go to the gallops in the morning and the races in the afternoon. We were only young and it was always a big adventure for us. Times have changed though and I will not be there this year, instead I will be in the Studio bringing you more action from Kempton Park. It is the first of two evenings handling everything Kempton and tonight Richard Hoiles will be my guest. As I always say please email us at [email protected] and we will read your missives out during the show. We will be happy to discuss anything that you put out there for us and I would be particularly interested in your thoughts on Frankel and how he will get on in the Greenham on Saturday. We would also welcome your thoughts on Kempton tonight I wonder if it will be a front runners paradise again today?

Our selection won yesterday to keep up a really good strike rate this month. Eight winners so far have kept the hungry wolf from the door, but he is never far away I am afraid so the pressure is still on. I like the look of the favourite in the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket today. Sing Softly was impressive when winning last weekend and she will be on her game this afternoon having already had two runs this season. She also likes to bowl along in front which is a tactic that works on this easy track. Easy I hear you cry, easy? Yes, you heard right, the Rowley Mile course is nowhere near as stiff as some would have it. Race times and run styles tell us this. Being prominent is a distinct advantage here and Sing Softly is likely to be ridden prominently by Ryan Moore and she will take some catching.

Time for me to get ready for a long day. Enjoy all the action on today.

All the best.
