Captain's Blog - 21st April 2011

The long Bank Holiday starts tonight and for many that will mean DIY, family barbeques, trips to the coast and as many Easter Eggs as can be consumed reasonably over four days. For me it means one day at work on Saturday and a trip to the coast on Monday to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. Fish and Chip’s on the beach followed by some Champagne back at home later is on the agenda and I am really looking forward to it. Hopefully the weather is set fair for the weekend which will make the whole weekend that much more enjoyable for all of us.

Many thanks to everybody who mailed the studio last night with their thoughts on a variety of subjects. I hope that Steve Mellish and myself did them justice. Steve was in excellent form last night and it was good to work with him again. The research he does and his knowledge of the sport brings plenty to the party. We were both impressed with the win of Parlour Games in the feature event and he could be a horse to follow on the turf when there is some cut in the ground. He had a lot to do in the home straight after being held up by Ahmed Ajtebi, but came home strongly to win despite taking a while to get organised. He is potentially quite useful and worth keeping an eye on.

A day at home for me today and it will be great to spend some time with the family. We will no doubt be spending much of the day in the garden in the sunshine although if it gets as hot as yesterday it may just be too much for the little one. I guess it won't be long before I am heading to the shops to buy a paddling pool for days like these and a slide and a swing and a bike and .... blimey I will need to find some winners before next summer comes round!

Our selection yesterday bombed out at a short price which is inexcusable and in essence was a terrible choice for which I apologise. Giving short priced losers is not what this blog is about. I would rather go down swinging at a big priced poke and yesterday's debacle is a lesson learnt even if I should have been to that school many years ago.

Time for me to call it a day. See you tomorrow.
