Captain's Blog - 11th May 2011

Yesterday here on the blog I stated that I felt St Nicholas Abbey was the new Harbinger. A friend of mine subsequently told me that such a bold assertion was nonsense and was not founded in proper form study. He told me that St Nicholas did not beat anything in the Ormonde at Chester and thus the form looked dodgy! I would like to answer that charge in two ways.

Firstly, Racing is not about what you beat it is about how fast you ran in winning. Usain Bolt could race against me and beat me by miles and people would say that he beat a slow old man with no form so the race is best ignored. This is nonsense, beating me in a 100 metre race or a fellow Olympic sprinter amounts to the same thing because what matters is the speed figure that he ran. The same applies to St Nich. He beat Allied Powers by 9 lengths and some believe that is not very formful and he has more to prove, however one look at the speed figure he ran tells you how good his performance was whatever he beat.

Thus secondly I give you his speed figure in the Ormonde in comparison to Harbinger.

2010 Ormonde - Harbinger - 119

2011 Ormonde - St Nicholas Abbey - 116

Lets hope the collateral form guys believe his Chester run proved nothing and lay some decent prices next time he runs.

A short priced winner for us on the blog yesterday which was sweet despite the price! Hopefully we can go on a bit of a run now and finish the month on a high.

I am in the studio tonight with Rishi Persad to take you through the card at Kempton which will follow on from day 1 of the Dante Meeting at York which will be live on . Any questions that you may have for us apertaining to York this afternoon or Kempton this evening can be sent to studio@racinguk.com.

Thats it for today folks. All the best.

Today's Selection
